FIVE DAY MUSICAL FEST

The V&A Waterfront will continue to showcase live music every day in support of great local musicians, between Saturday 8^th and Thursday 13^th December with free performances at the outdoor Amphitheatre.

On Saturday 8 December the five-man soul, Afro pop and R&B band Larry Joe Live will perform between 18h00 and 19h00.  Larry Joe first shot to fame in December 2010 when his first album Crazy Life was recorded in a single cell in the Douglas prison in the Northern Cape. From this humble beginning, he has since written more than 80 songs in several languages and has been invited to tour overseas, attracting the attention of New York-based producer Fabrice Dupont who produced the 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem Waka Waka.

On Sunday 9 December, popular indie, folk singer-songwriter Jess Yallup will perform between 18h00 and 18h30.  Jess’ warm, raspy vocals made her a popular entrant in the 2010 SA Idols contest, finally reaching the number six slot.  She will be followed between 18h30 and 19h15 by the Jack Mantis Band.  The gypsy rockers will take the audience through a range of rock, acoustic, soulful blues and reggae numbers.

Local band Cherry Vinyl needs no introduction to Capetonians as they are regulars on the entertainment scene. The band, which has shared a stage with local icons such as Freshly Ground and has performed at prestigious festivals such as the KKNK, will take to the Amphitheatre stage on Monday 10 December, between 18h00 to 18h40. Next up between 18h45 and 19h30 will be the accomplished singer, songwriter and guitarist Nick Turner.  As a founding member of local bands such as Sons of Trout and Mikanic, Nick brings a range of genres and influences to his music, from rock to reggae, African, hip-hop, Goema and jazz.

Jazz enthusiasts can relax with the cool sounds of jazz on Tuesday 11 December with performances from Mamela, Urban Groove and 5 Levels Up between 18h00 and 20h00. The five members of Mamela play a combination of standards and original tunes and have previously played with the likes of the late Robbie Jansen.  The band Urban Groove was born when music students Tony Higgins and Marc de Kock met in 2010 at the Cape Music Institute.  Under the leadership of Camillo Lombard and Ezra Delport the band began to perform a blend of jazz standards, smooth jazz and urban jazz.  Talented Cape Town band 5 Levels Up will perform a mixture of jazz, R&B, dance music, ballads and soft rock.

For many musical legends, Gospel was their ladder to success and on Wednesday, 12 December two extremely talented young Capetonians will showcase where it has taken them.  Faith supported Stan 1 after the tragic loss of his father and led to him producing the hit track ‘Why did you go’ together with Ernie.B St.Clair.  Since then Stan 1 has shared a stage with other artists and producers such as HHP, AKA (Ivy League), Jack Parow and many more. Stan 1 will take to the stage at 17h45, followed by Can Skylark at 18h15.  Candice Malander-Thorne, better known as Can Skylark, began her career in the Church Choir and singing in Gospel bands from the age of 13. Candice is regularly booked by show producers for her incredible vocals and is currently recording her debut album.

The Kevin Floyd Band brings the Celebration of Music to a close on Thursday, 13 December. Lead guitarist Kevin Floyd spent 11 years travelling abroad as a musician where he jammed with music greats such as BB King and Gary Moore. His love of the blues led him to form the band with like-minded musicians such as base guitarist Rob Stemmett, drummer Pieter Heyns and vocalist Charlie King.  The hour long show will begin at 18h00.

Getting to the V&A Waterfront is as quick as hopping on a MyCiti bus.  As of 1 December, the MyCiti bus service will run a direct link from the airport to the Waterfront.
