Artscape packs festive programme with top shows

Artscape wishes all its patrons and readers a blessed festive season. The next edition the newsletter will be published on 16 January 2013. The festive season programme is jam packed with top presentations that range from dance and comedy to drama and choral music.

BLISS-FULL! – 5 to 8 December 2012 (± 2,25 hrs)
STUDENTS of the Cape Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) present an engaging performance at the Theatre. It is filled with dynamic and highly talented young artists in dance, drama and song. Tickets range from R85 to R100.

Grace – 7 to 15 December 2012 (± 2 hrs)
THE Cape Dance Company presents two new works by acclaimed choreographers Bradley Shelver and Adele Blank at the Theatre. They will also re-stage two highly-successful and popular works from previous seasons choreographed by Christopher L Huggins. Tickets range from R120 to R140.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – 10 to 22 December 2012 (± 60 mins)
A CRUEL wicked Queen was very jealous of her beautiful stepdaughter, Snow White.  One day she sent Snow White into the forest with a hunter who had been told to get rid of her.  Snow White escaped and discovered a little house which belonged to seven dwarfs. This magical fairy tale in the Theatre Foyer will enchant all. Tickets cost R50.

The Nutcracker – 13 to 23 December 2012 (± 2 hrs)
THIS perennial favourite fairy tale ballet for the festive season at the Opera House brings to life the story of Clara, Fritz and their eccentric uncle, Drosselmeyer. Accompanied by the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) at some performances, this season features internationally acclaimed guest artists Daria Klimentova and Vadim Muntagirov at two performances. THE Afrikaans version of Ray Cooney’s original farce, Run for your Wife returns after a bumper sold out season to the Theatre. The main character is a London cabby driver who lives with his wife in Highgate… and also with his other wife in Finchley, only four minutes apart. Tickets range from R120 to R160.

Coppelia – 4 to 12 January 2013 (± 2 hrs)
BASED on the well- known story by ETA Hoffmann, this is balletic entertainment at its very best at the Theatre. It incorporates romance, intrigue and deception, transporting the viewer to a world of folklore and witchcraft, with a happy ending. Tickets range from R100 to R130.

Cardenio – 12 January to 16 February 2013 (± 2,75 hrs)
SHAKESPEARE’S lost play Cardenio, a tragicomedy, was adapted by Gregory Doran (Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company) and Antonio Álamo in 2010. This play at the Maynardville Open-Air Theatre is a thrilling adventure of love and sex, the betrayal of friendship and of honour set in 17th century Spain. Tickets range from R110 to R160.
