New Ray Cooney farce for Artscape

A new Afrikaans version of a Ray Cooney farce visits the Artscape Theatre Centre this month. The programme for the next two weeks includes two musicals, dance, children’s theatre and a networking forum.

Jersey Boys – From 19 June 2013 (± 2,5 hrs)

THE remarkable rags to riches story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, mesmerises audiences at the Artscape Opera House. This is an absolute “must-see” Broadway musical about the real-life story of how four poverty-line kids from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the greatest successes in pop music history. The season has been extended for two weeks and must end by 4 August. Tickets range from R100 to R390.

Make Way for Noddy 22 June to 6 July 2013 (± 60 min)

JOIN Noddy, Big Ears, Tessie Bear and all their Toyland friends in the Theatre Foyer. It is Tessie Bear’s birthday. Noddy writes her a song but everyone he meets, feels it is not an impressive gift. What should Noddy do? Naughty Sly and Gobbo are up to their tricks too. Big Ears cannot sleep. He asks Noddy to get special ingredients for a sleeping spell. Noddy forgets and brings the wrong things.  Oh, dear Noddy! Tickets cost R60.

Boy Meets Boy – 29 June to 20 July 2013 (± 2,5 hrs)

THIS smash hit and very topical musical comedy at the Arena is a light hearted story set in the 1930’s. It tells of mistaken identities and a romance between two men that culminates in their marriage. Tickets cost R100.

Jazzart Azishe! – 4 to 7 July 2013 (± 2 hrs)

THE Jazzart Dance Theatre brings works from across South Africa to the annual Azishe! Dance festival at the Theatre. They will share the stage with the Daveyton Arts Foundation from Gauteng, Lumanyano Cultural Group from the Eastern Cape, Dreamfinder Trading and Project 302 from KwaZulu-Natal, and one of its Cape Town community partners. Tickets cost R70.

My Vrou se Man se Lyk se Tas – 10 to 21 July 2013 (± 2,5 hrs)

DON’T miss this Afrikaans stage rendition of Ray Cooney’s Funny Money at the Theatre. A suburban accountant accidentally swopped his suitcase with another man on a train, just to find out that it contains a small fortune… Tickets range from R125 to R165.

Liewe Heksie – 17 to 19 July 2013 (± 90 min)

HER name is Levinia and she is a rather incompetent and forgetful witch who lives in Blommeland. Her stupidity and lack of magical skill lead to many funny situations at the Theatre. Tickets range from R100 to R140 for adults and from R55 to R75 for children.
