Summer Sunset Concerts

Long established and a firm favourite with locals and visitors to Cape Town, the line-up for the V&A Waterfront Free Summer Sunset Concerts has been announced. Taking place on the outdoor Amphitheatre during the month of December, these acoustic performances featuring well-known names offer great views, great music and the perfect way to spend a summer’s evening on the water’s edge.  Each performance takes place at a different time so keep an eye on www.waterfront.co.za for a full schedule.

Bio: Singer and songwriter Francesca Biancoli founded an Amy Winehouse tribute band known as the “Remembering Amy” in March 2012. She was born in South Italy where she grew up listening to jazz, soul, R & B, hip-hop and reggae. She moved to Bologna in 2013 where she performed at all the major jazz clubs and festivals in the city and in other parts of Italy and Europe. The Amy Winehouse tribute band known as “Remembering Amy” is a project that was based in Italy and has now moved to Cape Town, South Africa. The band consists of an amazing rhythm section with the addition of horns, guitars and backing vocals on occasion. The band performs well-known repertoire of the amazing and influential award winning Amy Winehouse.

Accomplished singer/songwriter and guitarist, Nick Turner was a founding member of Sons Of Trout in the late 1990s, and later one half of Mikanic, with fellow Trout violinist Mike Rennie.

Nick’s music effortlessly spans genres, with influences ranging from rock, reggae and African to hip-hop, ghoema and jazz. Lyrically powerful, relevant, humorous and energetic, his music has a wide appeal, with shows that feature virtuosic musicianship, funky grooves and catchy tunes.

After spending several years in New York, Nick returned home in 2009 to become involved in a number of music projects. He has appeared at various festivals and collaborated with the likes of Zolani Mahola (Freshly Ground), Karen Zoid and Louis Mhlanga, as well as playing solo, in a duo with bassist extraordinaire Schalk Joubert, and in a trio with the addition of another SA music legend Ash Read on drums.

Nick’s love of music extends to his involvement in a development project at Solms Delta wine estate called Music Van De Caab, which focuses on preserving the heritage of the music of the Cape (vastrap, ghoema) through facilitation, song writing workshops and teaching.
