Artscape hosts international award ceremony

Artscape plays host for the prestigious World’s Children Prize for the Rights of the Child. The program for the next two weeks includes two multicultural comedy shows, a hit musical, music, ballet, an arts exhibition and a schools festival of the arts.

Max Margoc Art Exhibition Until 9 March 2014

WITH the title “Groping for Trout in a Peculiar River” this armada of work depicts Maxim Margoc’s ‘cerebral state of affairs’ in a somewhat tangled highway of thought. The exhibition in the Marble Foyer incorporates textured creations and a residue of paintings.

The Sound of Music Until 30 March 2014 (± 2,5 hrs)

BASED on the memoirs of Maria von Trapp, The Sound of Music follows wayward postulant, Maria, who leaves the Abbey and becomes governess to seven children. This Andrew Lloyd Webber production of the legendary musical is staged at the Opera House with an all-star, all South African cast. Tickets range from R125 to R375.

How Did I Get Here – 28 February to 1 March 2014 (± 70 min)

INTERNATIONAL Emmy–nominated writer (LNN) and Comedian Mojak Lehoko presents an autobiographical and humorous take on South Africans, their quirks and the changes the country has been through during the past 20 years of democracy at the Arena. Tickets cost R100.

Voices of the Guitar 5 March 2014 (± 1,75 hrs)

CLASSICAL Guitar Maestro Dimmitrios Giannakis, in conjunction with the Guitar School of Excellence presents a celebration of classical, Spanish and jazz music at the Arena, with guest artists Garth Keyster (flute), Jonathan Waltors and El Farid. Tickets cost R100.

THE Kit Davies School of Ballet brings you a night of entertainment, glamour, action and anticipation at the Theatre. Who will take home the Oscar on the grandest stage of them all? Tickets cost R120.

Western Cape Schools Festival of Arts – 11 to 14 February 2014 (± 2,5 hrs)

THIS annual festival at Various Artscape Venues exposes young learners to professional theatre and gives them the opportunity to engage with creative individuals through hands-on workshops, lectures and demonstrations. By invitation.

Rocking for Change 15 March 2014 (± 2 hrs)

THE Swedish World’s Children’s Prize Foundation and the Manyeka Arts Trust collaborate to promote a more humane world where children’s rights are respected by all at the Arena. Annually three Child Rights Heroes are selected to be candidates for the World’s Children Prize for the Rights of the Child. The latest winner will be announced during this prestigious ceremony. Don’t Dalla Wid Da Masala – 15 March 2014 (± 2 hrs)

THE enigmatic Karou Charou returns to the Artscape Theatre with his rib tickling one man comedy show that dissects all things Indian. Tickets range from R120 to R150.
