Dance moves reflect a kaleidoscope of emotions on stage

16 Jun, 2015 @ 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Dance for All’s annual production ‘Kaleidoscope’ unfolds on stage as part of the Youth Day Celebrations at the Artscape Theatre.

The concept of the production takes on a slightly different angle this year, it emulates “A mirror-filled cylinder, with the twist of a hand, brings a constantly changing yet ever pleasing pattern to random collections of coloured glass”. Just as we marvel at the patterns created by a kaleidoscope, so Dance for All aims to showcase the more human face and emotions through its young dancers as unique, diverse individuals who together create something beautiful, through dance.

The ‘Kaleidoscope’ production is portrayed with the different dance genre and styles through five different choreographed pieces. They will be performing the following dance styles; Ballet, Contemporary, Flamenco and African Contemporary. The choreographers who spent arduous hours creating this spectacle of colour are Anderson Carvalho, Daniela di Lorenzo, Allison Hendricks, Ché Adams, Louise Coetzer, Hope Nongqongqo and Lorraine Ndindwa. The dancers in this production are from various communities; they hail from Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Delft, Elsies River,Kuils River,Mitchells Plain and Athlone. Some of these dancers have been with Dance for All since the age of 10 and have literally grown up with the organisation.

‘For the past few years Dance for All had the privilege of performing at the magnificent Artscape Theatre.  Marlene Le Roux, Director Audience Development at Artscape and patron of Dance for All has made this possible. It is a huge privilege for our students to perform in a professional setting. This environment has been a spring board for former students who landed overseas jobs’, added Philip Boyd founder and CEO of Dance for All.

This year’s ‘Kaleidoscope’ production is dedicated to the late Christopher Kindo, previous dance teacher and choreographer with Dance for All

They also have an extensive Outreach Programme in Gugulethu, Nyanga, Khayeltisha, Delft, Kenilworth and a Rural Outreach Programme in Montagu, Barrydale and Paarl.

Dance for All is constantly seeking funding to continue with the programmes in disadvantaged areas. To become a friend of Dance for All check www.danceforall.co.za.
