AMARIDER 100 MILER

25 May, 2013

ULTRA MARATHON SWARTLAND NOW IN ITS FIFTH YEAR

South Africa’s top mountain bikers and marathon junkies will be seen during this Cape’s ultra mountain bike marathon taking place on the 25th of MayThis year will see the fifth edition of an event that grew from humbling beginnings in 2009 to what is now one of the must-do-events on the mountain biking calendar. Previous winners of the 100Miler are Erik Kleinhans, Jacques Rossouw, Christiaan Kriek and Charles Keey.

This adrenaline pumping event will start & finish in Malmesbury. Only pre-entries will be accepted for both the 100Miler and 50Miler. Entries are limited and results will be included for seeding of Die Burger MTB Challenge 2013.

The 160km route is divided into three sections of approximately 55km with two compulsory timing checkpoints.  The format of the race creates perfect vantage points for spectators and supporters.  While the competition is based on solo riders completing the entire course, these riders can form 4-man teams with the team results based on the 4th rider crossing the line, thereby encouraging teamwork and cameraderie.

The event offers a shorter option of 80km (starting at the half way mark), where keen riders will receive a taste of endurance riding.

This exciting route has been developed with the co-operation of local farmers and landowners, who gave permission for the organisers and cyclists to have access to their properties.  This type of support forms the foundation of Amarider, which endeavours to bring new routes to riders and new riders to existing routes.

According to Meurant Botha, director of Amarider, the 100 Miler was created to become a primary fundraiser for the organisation. Amarider is a recreational trails advocacy group focused on improving trail opportunities on the African continent and proceeds of the event are channeled directly to trail projects. Amarider is currently focused on improving trail construction standards around the country and assist various mountain bike clubs to ensure that their trails are safe and environmentally sustainable.

Finishing the Amarider 100 Miler within the allotted 10h30min cutoff time is one of the most challenging endurance tests.

This event takes pre-entries only and ranges from R225 for 50Miler & R400 for 100 Miler.  For further information & entries visit www.amarider.co.za or contact 021 884 4752
