Tension mounts in Artscape’s youth competition

Tension is mounting at the Artscape Theatre Centre as the third largest youth music competition in the country climaxes this week at the complex. The programme for the next two weeks also includes a tribute to the King of Pop and a dark comedy.

Champ – 6 to 20 October 2012 (± 80 mins)

THE second presentation of the 2013 Spring Drama Season at the Arena tells the story of three out-of-work actors, scraping the bottom of the barrel working as giant teddy bears at a shopping mall over the season. After a run-in with a particularly vicious five-year-old, the young bucks are forced to face up to the question: Who is a mouse and who is a man? Tickets range from R50 to R85.

Artscape National Youth Music Competition – 9 to 13 October 2012 (± 2 hrs)

TWENTY five young classical musicians between the ages of 14-years and 19-years vie over four rounds for the national coveted title at the Theatre. They will perform Saturday evening in the final round with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of British conductor Tim Murray. Entrance to the first three rounds is free. Tickets for Saturday’s gala concert cost R100.

Michael Jackson History Show – 10 to 28 October 2012 (± 2,25 hrs)

THIS show at the Opera House offers an opportunity for Jackson fans to witness a concert they may never have experienced in their lifetime, and to relive memories they were lucky enough to have made. Hit after hit tells the story of one of the greatest pop icons the world has ever known. In all, HIStory features over twenty songs performed live by Kenny Wizz, the celebrated performer direct from Las Vegas, who’s dubbed the world’s No 1 Michael Jackson impersonator, backed by an amazing band and the ‘This is It’ dancers. Tickets range from R125 to R290.
