Artscape celebrates local flair

The Artscape Theatre Centre celebrates local flair with a strong focus on South African issues. The programme for the next two weeks includes contemporary dance, drama, a film festival and an Afrikaans farce.

Biko’s Quest – 8 to 16 September 2012 (± 80 mins)
THE Jazzart Dance Theatre and the Steve Biko Centre present an engaging piece at the Theatre based on the role played by Steve Biko and the Black Consciousness Movement in the South African liberation struggle. Tickets cost R90.

Other People’s Lives – 15 to 29 September 2012 (± 60 mins)
THE annual Artscape Spring Drama Season kicks off at the Arena with Amy Jephta’s new drama about the lives of four young flat dwellers that intertwine on New Year’s Eve and a shocking incident forces them to deal with the aftermath of violence and to come face to face with their own cruelty. Tickets range from R50 to R85.

Inter-In-De-Pendent Film Festival – 24 September 2012 (± 12 hrs)
A CHANCE to see some never been screened before films by independent producers in the Marble Foyer. These film makers are predominantly members of the Artscape Resource Centre (ARC). One exciting project to come out of this initiative is the Ikapa Youth Film Festival which premiered in Germany in June 2012. Entrance is free.

My Vrou se Man se Vrou – 25 September to 5 October 2012 (± 2 hrs)
DON’T miss the Afrikaans version of Ray Cooney’s original farce, Run for your Wife at the Theatre. The main character is a London cabby driver who lives with his wife in Highgate… and also with his other wife in Finchley, only four minutes apart. The two wives obviously are not aware of each other’s existence… Tickets range from R120 to R160.
