Artscape introduces new language policy
Artscape, the managing company of the homonymous theatre centre in Cape Town, has introduced a new language policy to ensure the equitable use of the three official languages of the Western Cape. The programme for the next two weeks includes three schools setwork productions in the three official languages, two dramas, a ballet, an acting competition and a choral celebration.

Brothers In Blood24 April to 11 May 3013 (± 90 min)
THIS human drama at the Arena explores the universal theme of prejudice, located in the evergreen context of religious tension between Jewish, Muslim and Christian characters. It is set in Cape Town in the late 1990s against the backdrop of the activities of People Against Gangsterism and Drugs (PAGAD) which caused high tension within the city at the time. Tickets range from R60 to R85.

Rainbow Scars – 25 April to 11 May 2013 (± 90 min)
THIS new Mike van Graan play at the Arena is a powerful exploration of some of the complexities of contemporary South African relationships, layered with dollops of humour. Tickets range from R60 to R85.

Nothing But the Truth – 26 April to 10 May 2013 (± 2 hrs)
WRITTEN by the grandfather of South African theatre, John Kani, this play at the Theatre portrays how a man comes to terms with the past by venting his resentment and hatred about the past. Tickets cost R40.

Camille – 2 to 12 May 2013 (± 2 hrs)

ONE of Cape Town’s best-loved ballerinas, Tracy Li, has made her triumphant return to the Opera House! Based on Verdi’s well-known opera, La Traviata, this presentation follows Veronica Paeper’s dramatic balletic interpretation of the opera. The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) accompanies the company at selected performances. Tickets range from R120 to R280.

Vers en Kabaret 15 to 24 May 2013 (±2 hrs)
THE warmth and greatness of Afrikaans poetry unfold in the presentation at the Arena with Alfred Rietmann directing. It is filled with simplicity, multiplicity and Afrikaans culture. Tickets cost R40.

National Acting Competition – 16 to 18 May 2013 (± 60 min)
THIS national competition for high school learners at the Theatre focuses on individual’s acting ability. Following nationwide elimination rounds, the final 60 competitors have been invited to take part in the final four rounds.
