Sunday, 22 February 2015

The first Bottelary Hills ‘Pop Up’ Winemakers Lunch for 2015 will fulfil all grape expectations at the family run Kaapzicht Estate, when it will serve up a sensory feast on Sunday, 22 February.

These seasonal lunches, which see prominent winemakers of this sub-route of the Stellenbosch American Express® Wine Routes sharing their pride and pleasures with the public during an informal wine tasting and hearty feast, are extremely popular due to their intimate, unpretentious nature. This time Kaapzicht’s affable Steytler family will open their doors to welcome like-minded food and wine lovers to immerse themselves in the ‘Bottelary Hills way of life’ and will be joined by a select choice of their winemaking neighbours. Guests also get a 10% discount on all their wine purchases on the day.

“These lunches are all about sharing…sharing good wine, good food, fascinating stories and the genuine, uncomplicated hospitality of this somewhat hidden wine community,” explains Annareth Bolton, CEO of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes.

A stellar selection of wines unique to this prime winegrowing area north-west of Stellenbosch will share the spotlight with a sumptuous four course Sunday lunch, prepared by seasoned chef Christophe Dehosse of Joostenberg Bistro. Think lemony Cape line fish with Sauvignon Blanc, beef oxtail terrine with Chenin Blanc, slow cooked lamb with a robust red and caramelised layers of pineapple served with your dessert wine.

Nestled along the R304 and M23, the Bottelary Hills Wine Route reveals an untapped world of quality wine to both discerning wine drinkers and those who appreciate Cape heritage. It is home to some of the oldest wine farms in the country including the likes of Beyerskloof, Goede Hoop, Groenland, Hartenberg, Mooiplaas and Villiera.

The Bottelary Hills themselves contribute to the complex terroir of the soil and help the area produce some spectacular red wines. The slopes of these hills are kept cool by the ocean breezes of both False Bay and Table Bay, allowing the area to also produce some award-winning white wines and Méthode Cap Classiques.

The great charm of this wine route comes from the fact that most of the farms have been family-owned for many generations. This rich sense of history, commitment and family radiates in both the wines and the welcoming atmosphere of this area.

The Bottelary Hills Winemakers Lunch at Kaapzicht costs R280 per person, which includes the wine tasting, the four course meal, and a glass of wine per course. This unadulterated experience of true Winelands camaraderie starts at 12h30 and pre-bookings are essential as seating is limited. To book your seats contact Tel: (021) 886 8275 or send an email to marketing@wineroute.co.za.

Kaapzicht is situated on the M23 Bottelary Road off the R304 to Stellenbosch. For more information on this Bottelary Hills stalwart visit www.kaapzicht.co.za.
