Mike van Graan’s award-winning play, Brothers in Blood, opens at Artscape Arena on Wednesday, 28 March.

Brothers in Blood is an explosive drama about Jewish, Muslim and Christian relations set in Cape Town in the late 1990’s and against the background of PAGAD’s activities against  crime and the drug trade.

Xenophobia, prejudice, religious conflict, fear and anxiety – these are the challenges three fathers have to deal with in order to protect their children.

Writer Mike van Graan says the following:  “It’s as if the subject is taboo, the-theme-which-cannot-be-metioned, a topic too dramatic and volatile in real life to be explored in theatre.   And yet, precisely for these reasons, we need plays that put into the public domain those issues that cause us anxiety, fear and unease, so that theatre can play its role of provoking debate, challenging personal comfort zones, allowing for individual and collective catharsis”.

Director, writer, actor, Greg Homann, a Wits University Graduate, has brought together a formidable cast of five.   Award-winning actor, David Dennis, portrays the role of Abubaker Abrahams,

Commissioned by the Charles Diamond Foundation, Brothers in Blood premiered at the Market Theatre in 2009 and won the 2010 Naledi Theatre Award for Best New South African Play.

Brothers in Blood is presented by Artscape in association of MVG Productions at the Artscape Arena, opening on Wednesday, 28 March at 20:15.   Performance information is as follows:
A special preview on Tuesday 27 March at 19:30 at R50 per person

Tuesdays 3 and 10 April at 19:30 at R65 per person

Performances on 12, 13, 14 April at 18:00 and all other 20:15 performances at R85 per person.
