Cape Town City Ballet’s Night & Day rings in the New Year

Cape Town City Ballet’s hit production Night & Day, a tribute to the life and music of Cole Porter, returns to the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town from 31 December 2013 to 11 January 2014. After highly successful runs in Johannesburg and Durban, lovers of dance in Cape Town again have the opportunity to catch this sparkling ballet which includes elements of jazz, tap dancing and cabaret. To mark the start of New Year, the run opens with a special New Year’s Eve performance on Tuesday 31 December at 21h00.

Celebrated as one of the 20^th century’s most popular song writers, Porter wrote some of the catchiest tunes and romantic songs ever composed and dominated the American musical scene from the 1930’s to 1950’s. His music continues to be popular with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Robbie Williams, Michael Bublé, and Alanis Morisette having recorded his songs.

Named after Porter’s most famous song Night and Day, the ballet’s beautiful costumes and superb choreography transport the audience to a Parisian park, a cafe in Venice, the streets of New York and a Hollywood film studio. With a solo clarinet player added to the mix, dancers perform to well-known songs, like Let’s Misbehave, Too Darn Hot, Let’s Fall in Love and Anything Goes.

Reviews hailed the production as fast-paced, brilliantly choreographed, enchanting and delivered with aplomb and superb technique.

Directed by Robin Van Wyk, Night & Day promises a highly entertaining theatre experience and dance of the highest calibre, performed by South Africa’s most esteemed ballet company.
