As the winter chill hits the Cape, the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands invites visitors to make the most of the season, with the unique selection of wines on offer this June.
The tastings for the month begin on 1 June, with a selection from Chamonix Wines. Set high above the Franschhoek valley, this working wine farm and water bottling plant has a history stretching back nearly 350 years. Offering a wide variety of white and red wines, their range includes two Pinot Noirs, three Chardonnays – oaked and unoaked – and an MCC.
8 June sees the wines of Baccarat brought to the Vineyard Hotel. Also based in Franschhoek, their boutique selection includes a Chenin Blanc, rich in tropical fruit with balanced acidity, a Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak with aromas of plum and cedar, and a Chardonnay Pinot Noir blend. With the philosophy that wine should ‘always be enjoyed with friends’, this is an evening to bring sip, sample and relax.
The wines of Org de Rac in the Swartland will be on offer on 15 June. This organic winery is positioned as the ‘true green heartbeat of the Piketberg’, embracing the Swartland with a free spirit and biodiverse philosophy. Constantly striving for balance between nature, people and business, their range of wines leans predominantly towards red – perfect for the cooler months ahead.
Returning to Franschhoek, 22 June brings the wines of Topiary to the guests of the Vineyard Hotel. A boutique cellar situated between Franschhoek and Paarl, the cellar produces mainly red grapes – Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, and a small amount of Chardonnay, used for their highly rated Blanc de Blanc MCC.
The month ends with wines from Anthonij Rupert on 29 June. The flagship range from Rupert Wines, only the best is good enough for this portfolio, which consists of six wines – all red. The selection includes a Petit Verdot, Merlot – and the famous ‘Optima’ blend. A fitting end to a month of wintery wine tasting!
A representative from each of the respective estates will host the hour-long tastings from 18h00. Tastings are free of charge.
