The Dave Matthews Band will be making their first South African tour and perform at GrandWest on Saturday 30 November and on 1 December 2013.

A product of St Stithians College in Johannesburg, Dave moved to the USA and in 1991, from his Charlottesville, Virginia base, formed the original Dave Matthews Band. Their debut album Remember Two Things was released in 1993 and re-released in 1997 and it went on to achieve platinum status.

It was their second album Under the Table and Dreaming that resulted in 1994 in their first commercial hits, What Would You Say, Sattelite and Ants Marching. This album and Crash their next release saw them getting known nationally and they received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for So Much to Say.

Besides taking 2011 off from touring, just to play music together, the Dave Matthews Band have become known for their annual Summer-long tours of Europe and the United States and especially for their long improvisational renditions of their own songs.

Their eighth studio album Away From the World came out at the end of 2012 and was names by Rolling Stone as one of the Top 50 Albums of 2012.

The Dave Matthews Band has received 27 awards nominations and won seven including a Grammy, and four My VH1 Awards and they have sold 37-million CDs and DVDs combined. The band consists of Dave Matthews on guitar and vocals, Carter Beauford on drums, Jeff Coffin on saxophone, Stefan Lessard on bass, Tim Reynolds on guitar, Rashawn Ross on trumpet and Boyd Tinsley on violin.

For their South African tour they will have the legendary Vusi Mahlasela as their special guest. In his home country, he is known simply as “The Voice” and his songs could be labeled as African Folk.

The Dave Matthews Band will be performing at the Grand Arena, GrandWest at 19h00 on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December 2013. Tickets are between R400 and R600 from Computicket.
