DINNER IN THE DARK IN AID OF THE VISIONTRUST

ALLOW YOUR SENSES TO BE CHALLENGED FOR A NIGHT
Hein Wagner, blind adventurer and motivational speaker, will be hosting an exclusive Dinner in the Dark in aid of the VisionTrust on Saturday, 15 November 2014. The event will aim to raise funds for the VisionTrust and will be held at the Townhouse Hotel in Cape Town.
The VisionTrust was founded mid 2007 by Wagner when his desire to help other disabled persons find meaningful jobs and live fulfilling lives led him to formalise his intentions. Wagner had for many years experienced the prejudices of Corporate South Africa in employing people with disabilities first hand. He therefore vowed to dedicate his time to change these perceptions.
Wagner participates in extreme adventure to market the abilities of those living with disabilities and to raise funds toward the VisionTrust. Some examples of his achievements include breaking the World Blind Land speed record in 2009 and completing the Absa Cape Epic in 2011and also the Antarctica Marathon earlier this year.
This exclusive dinner with Wagner might seem strange to many, but there are valuable lessons Wagner wishes people to walk away with. He continues: “This is a fun filled event, so I’d like them to walk away on a high note. However, theexperience should encourage guests to appreciate what they have. People should be aware of how important it is to use all five senses – so much more can be achieved if we don’t take these things for granted.”
One of Wagner’s biggest challenges in his journey thus far has been to accept his blindness for what it is. “It helped me to open my mind to amazing opportunities.I hope the Dinner in the Dark experience provides a little insight into the magical world of the blind. This is also an amazing opportunity to connect with friends and family without the normal visual barriers.”
On the 12th of December Wagner the adventurer will be at it again when he takes on the challenge of cycling the Desert-Dash which will begin in Windhoek and end in Swakopmond. This again will be for the benefit of the VisionTrust, which has at its main goal to make the world more accessible for those living with disabilities.
