Gear up for the 3rd annual Baleia Wines MTB Challenge & Trail Run on 8 September

8 Sep, 2018

The third annual Baleia Wines Mountain Bike Challenge and second Trail Run is taking place on Saturday, 8 September, from Baleia Wines & Olive Oil cellar and tasting room next to the N2 just outside Riversdale in the Western Cape.

Baleia Wines graft exceptional wines and extra virgin cold pressed olive oil from their vineyards and olive groves on the farm Dassieklip in the Vermaaklikheid area near Riversdale.

Owners, Jan-Hendrik and Lindi Joubert, avid triathlon athletes who have just completed the Durban 70.3 Half Ironman, along with their team, will be your host on the day of the event.

MTB races

There are two races to choose from; the 20km race (R100 entry fee) and the 63km (R200 entry fee) that starts at 08:00.

Terrain;

The mountain bike routes consist of flowing gravel road, single track and jeep track through the green wheat fields and yellow canola fields of the Riversdale district. The timing is perfect for mountain bike riders to participate in this event before the upcoming Karoo to Coast.

The 20km route will mostly consist of single track and jeep track with an altitude gain of almost 320m with one water point.

The 63km route will consist of 80% flowing gravel roads and 20% jeep and single track of a total altitude gain of more than 800 meter. There will be 4 water points (10km, 30km, 45km and 58km) on this route.

Trail Run

The trail run will also be over two distances; 6.5km (R60 entry fee) and 16.5km (R100 entry fee) and starts at 08:00.

Terrain;

Trail runners will venture on to gravel roads, jeep tracks and single tracks and can expect small hills, valleys, ravines and a little forest section. There will be 2 water points on the 16km route although participants are encouraged to also carry their own supplies.
