Grande Roche Hotel’s Bubbly & Braai

23 Nov, 2013 @ 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Capture

Grande Roche Hotel’s Bubbly and Braai on 23 November is a culinary innovation that sees Chef Roland Gorgosilich and his team step out of the kitchen into the beautifully manicured Grande Roche Hotel gardens to create a sumptuous feast of seafood, succulent steaks and much more. Here the South African tradition of braaing is toasted with some of the best South African Méthode Champenoise wines – an unusual and trend-setting food and wine pairing. It’s an evening of fun and celebration on the lawns of the Grande Roche Hotel Manor House, where guests can raise a glass to toast the arrival of summer and enjoy different culinary combinations with some of South Africa’s best sparkling wines.

Guests will be introduced to the superb wine making skills of Graham Beck Wines, House of Krone, Charles Fox Cap Classic Wine Estate and Bosman Family Vineyard as they tuck into delicious treats from the braai. Expect prawns skewers, oysters done in their shells, rib eye steaks grilled to perfection and other tasty delights accompanied by a range of unusual salads and deliciously different side dishes. The evening will be both informal and informative as guests get the opportunity to the meet the wine makers while enjoying the finely crafted sparkling wines.

Over the years, Graham Beck Wines has established itself as one of South Africa’s leading Cap Classique producers, striving for consistency, quality and continuous innovation. At the custom built Méthode Cap Classique cellar in Roberston, the team continues to pursue the perfect bubble. Guests will be introduced to Brut Rose with its silver-pink hue and exuberant character, it’s seriously flirtatious and fun; Brut – an all round crowd pleaser and extremely versatile bubbly crafted from a selection of the classic Méthode Cap Classique varieties, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; one of the stalwart favourites amongst a legion of Graham Beck bubbly fans, the delicious and versatile Blanc de Blancs 2008 is produced from 100% Chardonnay and combines rich creamy aromas with hints of fresh lime fruit on the nose; the exceptional Brut Rose Vintage 2008 is pretty and pink, but packs some serious pedigree – a must to celebrate magical moments and toast special occasions.

The vineyards of House of Krone are situated on the east facing slopes of Saron Peak Mountain on the farm Twee Jonge Gezellen outside Tulbagh, where they produce South Africa’s finest vintage Méthode Cap Classique sparkling wine by hand. Guest will enjoy Krone Borealis Cuvée Brut 2009 made from traditional grape varieties (Pinot Noir & Chardonnay) that are handpicked in the cool of the night and early morning at the beginning of the harvest season. This is an elegant Cap Classique with a fresh apple and classic biscuity bouquet. Krone Brut Rose 2008 is made from Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%) grapes. It’s sassy, refreshing and uplifting, with aromas and flavours of red berry fruit and a long and complex finish from the extended lees contact.

Charles Fox Cap Classique Wine Estate is located in the beautiful Elgin Valley on an old rundown fruit farm, which was converted in a stunning Cap Classic Wine Estate. Growing only grape varieties used to make champagne – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the estate specializes in vintage Cap Classique, which is aged for two years in an underground cellar. Charles Fox believes in following the French style of champagne making and the French belief of terroir being all important for quality wine. Guests will have the opportunity to taste Charles Fox Brut 2010 and Charles Fox Brut Rose 2010.

Bosman Family Vineyards is nestled against the slopes of the Groenberg in the shadow of the Limiet Mountians near Wellington. A wine legacy of eight generations is respectfully continued on Lelienfontein Estate after the first generation settled on the farm in 1798. Guests are in for a treat with Steen 2008 made from 100% Chenin Blanc grapes. Displaying strong quince aromas combined with apple and unripe peach notes that follow through the palate, a tantalising mousse releases a vibrant mix of fruit flavours which ends with a clean, integrated aftertaste.

Bubblies have always been associated with celebrations and with Grande Roche Hotel now in its 21st year since opening, Bubbly and Braai is the perfect opportunity to toast this achievement.

The Grande Roche Hotel is running a special on accommodation to coincide with Bubbly & Braai and guests wishing to stay the night in five-star luxury may do at the special rate of R1 760 per room on a bed and breakfast basis, subject to availability.
