GUN RUN 5 KM FUN RUN/WALK

14 Oct, 2012

TAKE PART IN THE OUTSURANCE 94.5 KFM GUN RUN 5 KM FUN RUN/WALK

Anyone still wanting to be a part of the OUTsurance 94.5 Kfm Gun Run this Sunday 14 October can enter the 5km run/walk.  Entries for the 5km only will be taken at the various registration points at Sportsmans Warehouse in Rondebosch, Tygervalley, Canal Walk and Somerset Mall, and at the Atlantic Bowling Club in Main Road, Sea Point on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 October.  Participants can also enter the 5km on the morning of the event in Fritz Sonnenberg Road, outside Cape Town Stadium.

Entries for the half marathon and 10km run/walk have closed and race organisers are expecting to host a record field of close to 15 000 participants.  All three distances start in Fritz Sonnenberg Road, outside the Cape Town Stadium, and finish along the Sea Point Promenade, opposite Winchester Mansions.

Participants in the 21km half marathon and 10km run/walk must collect their race numbers and event T-shirt, if they ordered one, from the registration point they indicated when they entered.  Participants are also encouraged to visit the website www.thegunrun.co.za, which will provide them with where to parking, route maps and general race information to ensure they have a great race.  Substitutions will also be done at registration for a fee of R20.  Contact Top Events on 021-511 7130 for all the details.

The half marathon starts at 07h00, the 10km at 08h00 and the 5km at 09h00 and the Cape Field Artillery will provide the gun, which executive mayor Patricia de Lille will fire to start the half marathon.  Rugby legend Bryan Habana will be at the finish to fire the cut-off gun at 10h30.  The regiment and firing of the gun have been an integral part of the event since 2003.  Traditionally the event started at 09h00 and runners had to finish the event before the noonday gun was fired from Signal Hill.

Formed in 1857, the Cape Field Artillery is the oldest operational volunteer artillery regiment in the British Commonwealth.  The regiment has a close relationship with the City and fires the 21-gun salute at the opening of Parliament.

There are some great lucky draw prizes up for grabs, including a cheque for R10 000 and a flat screen TV, plus entertainment for the kids.
