LIGHTEN UP THIS CHRISTMAS AT THE V&A WATERFONT
17 Nov, 2012
Bah humbug, lights are just lights. Not at the V&A Waterfront they’re not! From Saturday 17 November, visitors to the Victoria Wharf Shopping Mall will witness an enchanting display of 400 000 lights specially designed to create the appearance of a gentle cascade of falling snow.
The lights, never previously used in South Africa before, will illuminate the towering 14m Christmas tree and will take a full day to set up. Doing the honour of switching on the lights at the Flagpole at 20h00 will be popular actor Colin Moss.
To complete the captivating effect, the Mall will be transformed into a magical underwater scene with mermaids and treasure chests overflowing with coveted gifts.
Leading up to the official switching on of the festive season lights will be a full day of activity. Young visitors will be kept busy by the opening of the new children’s playground at 9h00, while dad can catch all the live action of the South Africa versus Scotland rugby match from 18h30 on the big screen at the Amphitheatre. This will be followed by a varied line-up of live music with artists Nomfundo Xaluva, Jeremy Olivier, Captain Stu and The Rescu.

Time: 09h00 opening of the new children’s playground, 18h30 SA vs Scotland game live at the Amphitheatre followed by live entertainment, 20h00 switching on of the lights in the Victoria Wharf Shopping Mall
