OPERA AT SANDERS

1 Sep, 2013

An appetizing afternoon of opera at Sanders South Africa

Prepare for a Sunday afternoon of soaring voices at Sanders South Africa when young singers from the Cape Town Opera (CTO) production of Madama Butterfly present a taste of the popular upcoming opera.  Sunday 1 September is Spring Day and what better time than to enjoy the sight and sounds of these talented singers when, in costume, they present a short programme of some of the most popular music from Puccini’s most heart-rending opera. Playing host to the mystery of the geisha this elegant showroom, with its high ceilings, is the perfect place to showcase these performers.

Appetizing and interactive, the afternoon in this unusual venue will delight opera lovers and those who want to enjoy music in an intimate space. Expect to enjoy delicious snacks and a glass of wine as the voices take over, while the performers show their versatility with some additional lighter items.

Following the performance there will be an interactive questions and answers session with the singers.

The performers are:  Tshepo Moagi – tenor –CTO Young Artist who recently returned from the International Belvedere Competition in Amsterdam where he was awarded 3rd Prize, Audience Prize and Media Prize; Arline Jaftha – soprano and CTO Staff soloist; Nonhlanhla Yende – mezzo, and CTO Young Artist. She has been making a name for herself internationally and recently returned from master classes in London, Zürich and Garmisch on a Graham & Rhona Beck Foundation scholarship.

Mandisinde Mbuyazwe – baritone from the CTO Studio is back from Marseilles where he performed in a production with Opera Africa. With Esté Visser as accompanist this is an afternoon to savour.

Says Jens Reverchon, Director of Sanders South Africa and a Patron of the CTO: “Our aim is to provide the public with an opportunity to enjoy musical afternoons in an unusual setting, in an atmosphere that is interactive and social.  We have found that the more intimate space of our showroom is perfect for an appetizer of new performances.  We are passionate about opera and are privileged to enjoy this association with the CTO.”

Madama Butterfly will run at Artscape Opera House September 19, 25, 27 @ 19h30 & 21 September @ 18h00.  Guests will be able to purchase tickets to the special gala performance on 21 September.
