ROCKING OUR CITY AT GRANDWEST

24 Nov, 2012

Tickets are selling fast for Rocking Our City, GrandWest CSI’s variety show to be staged at the Grand Arena on Saturday, 24 November.

Headed by Danny K and Loyiso Bala, the line up reflects an entertaining blend of well loved Capetonian performers such as Zayn Adam, Karen Kortje, James Bhemgee, Mady, and Jeremy Olivier, as well as the very special talents of the Settlers High School Choir and the dynamic Limited Edition Drum Corps.

Master of Ceremonies for Rocking Our City will be the multi-talented Soli Philander who is a household name with a career spanning over 20 years.  Soli has performed in theatres around the country, made countless Television appearances as well as hosted programmes such as Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?, Vat n Kans, Exploring Southern Africa and many more.

In charge of getting the audience laughing will be the “lively and manic” Kurt Schoonraad. This “boykie” from Mitchell’s Plain has developed a brand of earthy humour that is hilariously funny and focuses on the diversity of our nation’s cultures. Kurt’s latest one-man show HomeGroan is proving to be just as popular as his previous Spiders and Mayonnaise. The audience will laugh until it hurts.

Also making a performance will be the celebrated Settlers High School Contemporary Choir.  The 190 member mixed choir gives voice to contemporary hits, winning the GrandWest High School Jam previously.  In July they performed in Germany.

Another very talented group of youngsters who will hold centre stage and have the audience stomping for more are the Limited Edition Drum Corps.  They burst into the spotlight recently after being placed third in SA’s Hot Talent 2010 contest. The members of the Corps, who all hail from Manenberg, originally started drumming with the Nurul Mubeen Children’s Brigade. Since then Limited Edition is much in demand and were the toast of the FIFA 2010 World Cup Fan Fest on the Grand Parade.

Musical Direction for Rocking Our City lies in the capable hands of versatile pianist Camillo Lombard who has played with many of SA’s leading artists and musicians.  When he is not performing himself, he teaches aspiring musicians.

And if this isn’t enough, the audience can also expect superb bagpipe solos as well.

There’s something to please everybody at the Rocking Our City concert.  The show starts at 20h00 and tickets are available from Computicket between R150 to R220.
