CAPE TOWN – The Africa Centre announces the next Talking Heads Live event – the city’s premier high-energy platform for ideas exchange to be held on Wednesday the 12th of March 2014. The program is set to be headlined by Cape Town’s brightest thinkers, influential change makers, doers and leading visionaries.

Hosted at the charming Gold of Africa Museum famous for housing AngloGold Ashanti’s prized gold artifact collection, this event is a carefully curated experience of inspiring, thought provoking conversations that invite curious members of the public to explore and develop new ways of seeing, thinking and understanding their world.

This year’s first event will feature 40 speakers from a broad range of disciplines, including sustainability architect Gita Goven, star gazer Dr Carolina Ödman-Govender; medical innovator Ashley Uys; urban renewalist Tony Elvin; land rights specialist Dr Ruth Hall; natural birth advocate  Sister Marianne Littlejohn; education reformist Ntshadi Mofokeng; bone implant designer Dr George Vicatos; child play expert Dr Elelwani Ramugondo;  shark spotter Alison Kock; urban gang ethnographer Irvin Kinnes; Fynbos lover Rupert Koopman; author and political columnist Dr Christi van der Westhuizen and free Wi Fi champion Zahir Khan, to name a few. Guests move from table to table engaging in four intimate 20-minute conversations in a carefully considered marriage of musical chairs and speed dating for the brain. It’s set to be a full evening capped with a special summer menu. Tickets are limited and on sale through Computicket.

“Talking Heads has an enduring history connecting people, ideas and stories”, remarks Africa Centre Executive Director, Tanner Methvin. “We have been holding live events for the last three years in Cape Town and Johannesburg but what is really exciting is the launch of our online platform (www.talkingheads.org.za), which features audio and videocasts that focus on thought leaders throughout the African Continent.  This extension will move us closer to realising Talking Heads’ core intentions of providing a media platform that offers a more complex, nuanced and real perspective of what is happening on our Continent.”

To date there are over 500 Talking Heads fellows who have participated in past events. To mark its 10th run, Talking Heads Live this year has been strategically inserted in the Infecting The City Public Art Festival (http://www.infectingthecity.com/2014/cape-town/) programme that cements the city’s reputation as a centre for innovation, design and global creativity.

Talking Heads is presented by the Africa Centre, a Cape Town based, Africa-focused social innovator that, through its six active projects, harnesses the power of arts, culture and knowledge creation to inspire a change in perspective and attitudes about the continent.
