THE PARLOTONES TO MAKE SOME NOISE AT RURAL WORLD AIDS DAY CONCERT

1 Dec, 2012

International World AIDS Day will be marked with a family-friendly concert and day out on 1st December 2012, as the Elgin Valley (just one hour from Cape Town) plays host to one of SA’s biggest World AIDS Day benefits; HOPE 2012.

The Parlotones and Watershed are headlining supported by Margaret’s Daughter, The Muffinz – more acts will be announced at a later date. This will be one of the last gigs on home turf for the Parlotones before they move out to LA at the end of the year. All the funds raised will go to the Thembalitsha Foundation; an organization with a proven track record for restoring hope to those infected by HIV and AIDS through the provision of healthcare, training and education.

HOPE 2012 ticket holders can expect top quality music on an outdoor stage in a lakeside setting at the Elgin Valley Country Club, which is flanked by the forests and fynbos of the Groenland Conservancy. Beyond the music, concert-goers will also enjoy gourmet food to-go, award-winning Elgin Valley wines, and play-zones with activities for kids. Parking zones will be securely managed and serviced by regular shuttles to alleviate congestion.

The Thembalitsha Foundation currently runs seven HIV support projects; two of which are based in Grabouw in the Elgin Valley; a town which has been ravaged by poverty, the rapid spread of the HIV virus and the subsequent stigmatism that has been associated with the disease. Says Thembalitsha chairman, Frank Christie, “HIV and AIDS is still a real issue in our communities – both from a health and dependency point of view and also because in so many communities the disease is misunderstood. It is Thembalitsha’s intention to create an event that will not only raise awareness for our cause but also unite the local and wider communities, whilst attracting new people to experience the beauty of the Elgin Valley.”

Bookings for HOPE 2012 opened on 20th September and tickets can be reserved through Computicket. Contact us directly for special corporate rates.
