The Write Journey workshop

The Write Journey workshop, presented by Daniel Dercksen, takes place at The Writing Studio in Greenpoint, Cape Town on 8 and 15 November from 10h00 until 18h00. The Writing Studio is an independent training initiative which is focused on the craft of writing and nurturing the talent of South African storytellers.
The workshop teaches aspirant writers how to conceptualise ideas, amplify thematic purpose, define and develop characters as well as plot and structure a story. After receiving hands-on experience in the workshop and writing the first 10 pages of their screenplay, writers work individually with trainer Dercksen to develop and complete a script draft which is then evaluated by The Write Agency, and forwarded to potential local and international producers.
Dercksen is a published film and theatre journalist who has been in the industry for 30 years. He has taught workshops in creative writing, playwriting and screenwriting throughout South Africa over the past 19 years. Graduates of previous workshops include filmmakers like Henk Pretorius (Bakgat, Leading Lady), John Barker (How to Steal a Million, Spud 3) and Sallas de Jager (Roepman, Verraaiers, Stuur Groete aan Mannetjies Roux).
