Village Day Celebrations

Maitland Garden Village – also lovingly known as the ‘Village’ – is hosting its annual outdoor Village Day Celebration from 1 – 3 November. Situated next to Pinelands, Garden Village is one of the oldest Cape communities in Cape Town, as the neighbourhood is celebrating 92 years of existence this year.

Celebrations will open on the famous soccer field on Alexander Road on Friday evening 1 November from 18h00 with a local beauty pageant and the crowning of Miss Garden Village, performances by solo singers and bands and the evening will end with a fireworks display. The action continues on Saturday 2 November with a morning parade through the streets of Garden Village at 09h00. This is when the community shines! The Garden Village drum majorettes will lead the newly crowned Miss Garden Village and her attendants, as well as community clubs through the neighbourhood.

The main events are again hosted on the soccer field on Saturday where visitors can enjoy locally made food on open fires and traditional delicacies such as pens-en-pootjies. There are games and rides for children, a dog show by SAPS, several dance groups and indigenous games. Throughout the day visitors will be entertained by the beats of “ Uncle Cal”, The Cazzman and DJ Wakes and many others. Performances by several dance groups as well as by vocalists Daphne Burt (2012 Winner CCT Talent Show-Ravensmead Division), Miss Anny & Brownie (The Cape Music Institute Band-CMI Collective) and Lori-Ann can be expected. A beer garden for adults will be available.  The bands,  Major 5,  and the Floridas (80’s old school) will perform.

Entrance fee: Adults R10, Children R5.

The Village Day is hosted by The Maitland Garden Village (MGV) Residence Association in conjunction with the Stakeholders (representatives of all the organisations in MGV) and supported by The City of Cape Town.
