VODACOM 4U RAGE FESTIVAL 2012

23 Nov, 2012 - 11 Dec, 2012

G&G Productions is already hard at work producing bigger, louder and safer celebrations for youth across the country as planning for the Vodacom 4U Rage Festival 2012 gets underway. Students across South Africa are set to take over the coastal towns of Umhlanga, Ballito, Durban and Plettenberg Bay to unleash the stresses of their matric and university years in November and early December, at one of the biggest events of the year.

2012 marks the 11th year of G&G Productions running the Vodacom 4U Rage Festival, which is once again backed by the power of Vodacom 4U and BlackBerry.  With these Generation Next award-winning brands on board for their second year in a row, G&G Productions will again be bringing their A-game party arrangements and meticulous safety planning to South Africa’s youth.

Greg Walsh, Managing Director of G&G Productions says, “Our goal every year is to make Rage an unforgettable experience for everyone involved, be it those who attend the events day and night or our partner brands who bring unbelievable value and unique experiential touch-points to the youth each and every year. The G&G brand promise of being “South Africa’s loudest event brand” is something we are very serious about so we are always looking for new ways to impress our audiences.”

Since its first year in 2001, Rage-goers have increased from 8000 to a whopping 120 000. “We are expecting a footfall of 135 000 this year,” says Walsh. “We pride ourselves on providing the ultimate let-loose experiences at beautiful coastal hotspots so that students can experience the South African version of America’s ‘Springbreak’ (hosted by Cancun in Mexico).”

Walsh is quick to highlight that the majority of G&G’s resources go into complying with stringent international safety requirements and providing new ways to keep partygoers safe and secure at the 4U Rage Festival.

“All 4U Rage Festival events comply with the latest Health and Safety Act of 2011.  We are acutely aware that we are responsible for young sons and daughters, many of whom are making their first steps into independent adulthood at Rage. We go to great lengths to ensure that every possible aspect of disaster management is covered beyond any legal requirement,” says Walsh.

Bruce Hurley, Financial Director and Chief Safety Officer of G&G Productions, says, “Even after 11 years in the big party game, G&G Productions can still boast the best safety and incident record of any company. As a parent of three, I always ensure that the events are safe enough for me to feel that I’d have peace of mind if my kids were to attend.”

G&G Productions provides an efficient branded shuttle system to ensure that Ragers can get to all events and return safely to their places of accommodation. Each trip costs between R10 and R30 and is heavily subsidized by G&G to ensure affordability for students. Further to this, the unique Rage Passports make it easier to track individuals across the different venues where Rage events take place so that concerned parents are able to contact G&G personnel in case of emergency. Local municipality, police, fire safety and disaster management are fully involved and form part of the intricate safety network set up to further ensure that events are responsible.

G&G Productions is also launching its very first CSI initiative to give back to the community through the 4U Rage Festival. R25 from every Passport sold will go to a newly set up foundation entitled Rage For Good. Event partners, sponsors and artists will be invited to contribute as well. Ragers can earn a Rage Passport on a “give to get” program, whereby they give 16 hours of their time to one of the four projects in Gauteng and Kwa-Dukuza that are supported by the foundation.

4U Rage Festival is well-known for booking the best local DJs and bands to deliver back-to-back top class music entertainment. This year, G&G Productions has taken it up a notch and secured international DJs such as Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike and Nervo, who collaborated to create the official Tomorrowland 2011 soundtrack and performed at the renowned Belgian music festival recently.

These international legends will be backed by the best 5FM deck-spinning names, including DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Roger Goode and Gareth Cliff as well as club bangers Kent, Pascal and Pearce and P.H Phat. Further big names will be coastal-bound to perform on-stage at 4U Rage Festival, such as Goldfish, Jack Parow, Die Heuwels Fantasties, Van Coke Cartel and Good Luck. Completing the lineup are exciting up and coming talents such as Amigo, Chef, Digital Kaos, Haezer, Dizzy Cam, Funky B, G-Funk, Niskerone, Sp!ndoctor,  Headphase, Justin Miller, Icarus, Jay Tweek, Royal K, Kyle Worde, Nick Supply, Das Kapital, DJ Mo, Peter Booth, Sibot, Rayns, DJ Dunn, Tomorrow’s Will and Veranda Panda. Most of these acts perform a minimum of five times each, ensuring that every night contains the kind of customised variety that the millennial youth demand.

A youth festival wouldn’t be a youth festival if there weren’t specially designed social networking plug-ins to drive talk ability and keep students in touch with their friends while partying the days and nights away. BlackBerry is launching a new app on BlackBerry App World, which will allow Rage-goers to access exclusive content, music downloads, festival maps and programs, and of course, allow them to share information, pictures and content and enter competitions.

Stimorol continues its year of ‘huh?!?’ through the planning of a surprise to add a new level of quirky entertainment to the 4U Rage Festival experience this year.   The 4U BlackBerry Rage squads will be roaming the streets, peppering beach-goers with prizes during the 2½ week party sensation. Ragers will be able to win one of 200 BlackBerry handsets, Vodacom 4U top-up contracts and grand prizes of Contiki Tours.
