16 February sees a return to the Overberg to explore the wines of Gabriëlskloof. After an intensive soil analysis showing that Bordeaux and Rhône varieties would do best on this property, the first vines to be planted under this name were Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc in 2002.
Creating wines that are described as ‘elegant’ and ‘honest’, Gabriëlskloof produces two distinct ranges and eight wines in total – including the Rosebud (a Shiraz / Viognier Rosé) and The Blend (a five-way Bordeaux blend). Gabriëlskloof focuses on producing the best quality wines from handpicked grapes – which are then gently pressed before being matured in oak barrels. All their wines are Wine of Origin Cape South Coast, Walker Bay District, the Bot River Ward.
23 February brings the wines of Diemersdal to the Vineyard Hotel. These dry-land vineyards develop concentrated flavours, which are then perfectly ripened by the cooling sea-breezes of the Atlantic Ocean. Together with hands-on care from the Louw family, this results in premium-quality wines with prominent varietal character. Producing predominately Sauvignon Blanc, the Diemersdal range also includes a Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot and Pinotage, among others.
A representative from each of the respective estates will host the hour-long tastings from 18h00. Tastings are free of charge.
